A Service of The Drama League Directors Project

WORKSHOPS OVERVIEW
WORKSHOPS OVERVIEW
The Drama League offers working directors classes, workshops, and development opportunities in evolving and emerging areas of importance to future success in the field. Like dancers returning to the barre for a lifetime of learning, directors are continually expanding and growing their skills, addressing the creation of new projects in future-forward environments. Bringing together acclaimed practitioners, the Workshops are short time commitments, designed to offer maximum acquisition of new information. Workshops will be announced on this page, but will also be announced via email invitations; if you’d like to update your email address with The Drama League, please contact us at artistic@dramaleague.org.
GATHERINGS OVERVIEW
GATHERINGS OVERVIEW
Although surrounded by actors, designers, and teams, directing is often isolating, and can be a lonely career. To address this, The Drama League offers The Gatherings, a series of community-focused meetups for directors to share experiences, pool resources, source knowledge, and enjoy each others’ company. The Gatherings are open to all Alumni of any Directors Project program. RSVP information about upcoming Gatherings will be shared via email invitations; if you’d like to update your email address with The Drama League, please contact us at artistic@dramaleague.org.
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TABLE

LOCATION: The Drama League Theater Center
ADDRESS: 32 6th Avenue, New York, NY 10013

What techniques can strengthen your ability to effectively match actor and role? And how can we transform the audition process so that it reflects our creative and ethical values? THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TABLE: AUDITION TECHNIQUES FOR DIRECTORS moves the selection process out of gut instincts and into conscious skills any director can employ, developed from interviews with dozens of acclaimed directors, agents and casting directors. Participants will learn to counter unconscious biases, and offer methods to ensure your audition is fair, equitable, and welcoming.

CREATING THE AUDITION ROOM

WORKSHOP: Creating The Audition Room: Audition Techniques For Directors
DATE/TIME: Monday, September 29th at 7pm
LOCATION: The Drama League Theater Center
ADDRESS: 32 6th Avenue, New York, NY 10013
GENERAL ADMISSION: $199
DIRECTORS PROJECT ALUMNI/DRAMA LEAGUE MEMBERS: $149
DESCRIPTION: This hands-on course gives directors the rare opportunity to practice audition techniques in a professional setting. Through a series of mock auditions with working actors, directors will learn how to build the first room — the audition room — that reflects their values, and gives actors a platform to be their best. CREATING THE AUDITION ROOM: AUDITION TECHNIQUES FOR DIRECTORS explores how environment, tone, clarity, communication, and presence shape the audition experience for both actor and director. In this workshop, you’ll create and get feedback on your casting breakdowns, practice audition room skills, and learn how to get the best of your collaborators. By honing in real time, directors will gain the confidence to cast with purpose, lead with integrity, and create spaces that invite trust from the very first moment.
