Fourth Friday ART+PARTY Series

The Drama League Artists Residency Program, made possible in part by the Leo Shull Foundation for the Arts, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, gives theater directors unique, supportive opportunities to develop new plays and musicals.  ARP has developed many award-winning productions since 2013, including The TEAM’s RoosevElvis (Vineyard Theatre, London’s Royal Court Theatre); Ripe Time’s The World Is Round (BAM); Georama (NYMF/Repertory Theatre of St. Louis); Assembled Identities (HERE); Distant Star (Abrons Arts Center); Rady&Bloom’s The Upper Room (New Ohio Theatre); and Piehole’s Hand Foot Fizzle Face (JACK).

THE FOURTH FRIDAY ART+PARTY

Thank you for your interest in The Drama League's newest residency initiative, the Fourth Friday ART+PARTY.  This residency is open to both theatre directors and visual artists; either can apply using this form.

The Fourth Friday ART+PARTY is a gathering of worlds...bringing the visual arts and theatre together to inspire each other as we create and share new work.  During each monthly ART+PARTY:

A chosen theater DIRECTOR will be in residence at The Drama League Theater Center for seven hours, to work on a section of any theatrical work they wish to develop.  The day may be spent rehearsing a play in pre-production, workshopping a new idea, or experimenting with an unwieldy moment in an existing work.  Meanwhile...

A VISUAL ARTIST will also be given time at The Drama League Theater Center, including a prime location to display a signature work and/or time to create in the space. And then...

The two works will converge at the ART+PARTY that evening, which will include a showing of both works to an invited audience of theatre and art professionals, with opportunities for an artists' discussion. Music, beverages, and feedback-friendly mingling will cap off this experiment in multi-artist, multidisciplinary artmaking.

Fourth Friday ART+PARTY is also a PARTY…drink, dance, laugh, enjoy, with art as our common connective tissue.  It is a place to meet other artists and art supporters, to experiment, to question notions of form, structure, collaboration, and even the very idea of what it means to be an artist in 2017.  It is ever-evolving, and can be whatever you wish it to be...

If you have questions about which residency is most appropriate for your project, please call (212) 244-9494 to discuss options in depth.  We are happy to speak with you!
