Samuel & Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War: This show, which won New York Innovative Theatre Awards for Outstanding Production of a Play and Outstanding Ensemble, returns to the New Ohio Theatre for a brief encore.  Directed by Lila Neugebauer. Performances run through this Saturday, February 18 only!  (newohiotheatre.org)

The Time of Your Life: One of our newest alums, Laura Braza, is directing a revival of William Saroyan’s The Time of Your Life for The Attic Theatre Company. Through February 25 at the Connelly Theatre. (theattictheaterco.com)

Playwrights Horizons

Due to a scheduling conflict, “A Conversation With Lily Rabe” has been postponed.

The Drama League will reschedule the event at a later date, subject to Ms. Rabe’s availability.

Lily Rabe is a stage and screen actress currently appearing in Seminar on Broadway. She was nominated for a Tony Award for performance in 2010′s The Merchant of Venice opposite Al Pacino. Her Broadway credits also include Steel Magnolias and An American Plan. She has appeared in such films as Never Again, Mona Lisa Smile and No Reservations. Her TV credits include the hit FX show American Horror Story.

Featuring a new book, adapted from Hammerstein’s original, by Douglas Carter Beane (Xanadu, Lysistrata Jones), the two reunite again after the successful collaborations of As Bees in Honey Drown and Music From a Sparking Planet.

Cinderella is being produced by Robyn Goodman and Aged in Wood Productions.

Interns also benefit from weekly mentoring sessions with the Executive Director, to help assess and realize their professional goals. Areas of focus include event management and planning, arts administration, fundraising and development, and member services in addition to self-guided projects and attendance of NYC theatre productions and events.

The Spring 2012 Arts Leadership Intern will primarily assist with the planning and execution of the 78th annual Drama League Awards. Interns also take on additional projects such as the coordination of the Theatre Excellence in America program, a nationwide network of theatres; grant research and proposal preparation; social media updates; general administrative support; and contributions to our monthly newsletter.

Skills/Requirements:

• Pleasant phone manner and strong writing skills
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, social media, and database management
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work independently, and make decisions
• Initiative, an eye for details, and a collaborative spirit
• Strong passion for the theatre or a background in the arts

Internship details:

March 26 – June 15, 2012; 20 hours a week for 12 weeks, plus occasional evening events.

Wong, Promises, Promises director Rob Ashford, composer Andrew Lippa, and a song by Laura Benanti.  Included in the evening’s performances were selections from Wicked, The Apple Tree, Steel Pier, Glee, Music in the Air, Strike Up The Band, Promises, Promises, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and more.

After the finale (“For Good” from Wicked), Kristin took to the stage and thanked the audience for their support.  Mentioning the work of The Drama League Directors Project, she discussed the importance of training stage directors.  “I think of all the directors who have made me what I am today — Michael Mayer, Rob Ashford, Gary Griffin, Jerry Zaks, Joe Mantello…the list goes on and on.  Without them, I wouldn’t be here.”  Inspired by the moment, Kristin then broke into an a capella rendition of the classic ballad “You’ll Never Know,”  which brought the audience to their feet.  Afterwards, she took to Twitter and said,  “That was the single most amazing night of my life. The performances!!  To all the volunteers last night at Drama League, thank you for all your hard work!!!  What a tribute and I am so humbled.”

The evening’s special all-star tribute, directed by Evan Pappas, produced by Drama League Artistic Director Roger T. The Benefit Gala raises much-needed funds for the vital education programs of The Drama League Directors Project.
