<p><strong><span style="color: #800000;">You, My Mother</span><span style="color: #800000;">: </span></strong><span style="color: #000000;"> chamber op</span>era in two parts is an investigation into the ever-shifting relationships between mothers and their adult children. </strong><br />
Internships at the Drama League provide students, recent graduates, and early career arts professionals with a fast-paced, immersive experience inside the inner workings of one of the nation&#8217;s oldest not-for-profit arts organizations. Interns are fully integrated members of our staff, with administrative responsibilities and opportunities for growth and learning.</p>
<p>Interns also benefit from weekly mentoring sessions with the Executive Director, to help assess and realize their professional goals. Areas of focus include event management and planning, arts administration, fundraising and development, and member services in addition to self-guided projects and attendance of NYC theatre productions and events.</p>
<p>The <strong>Spring 2012 Arts Leadership Intern</strong> will primarily assist with the planning and execution of the 78th annual Drama League Awards. Interns also take on additional projects such as the coordination of the Theatre Excellence in America program, a nationwide network of theatres; grant research and proposal preparation; social media updates; general administrative support; and contributions to our monthly newsletter.</p>
<p><strong>Skills/Requirements:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Pleasant phone manner and strong writing skills</li>
<li>Proficiency in MS Office Suite, social media, and database management</li>
<li>Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work independently, and make decisions</li>
<li>Initiative, an eye for details, and a collaborative spirit</li>
<li>Strong passion for the theatre or a background in the arts</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Internship details:</strong></p>
<p>March 26 &#8211; June 15, 2012; 20 hours a week for 12 weeks, plus occasional evening events.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://dramaleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/ChenoDramaJM30.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-5336" title="ChenoDramaJM30" src="http://dramaleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/ChenoDramaJM30-204x300.jpg" alt="" width="204" height="300" hspace="5" vspace="5" /></a>Last night, The Drama League&#8217;s <a href="http://dramaleague.org/events/2012-benefit-gala">Musical Celebration of Broadway Honoring Kristin Chenoweth</a> descended upon the elegant Pierre Hotel, with over 350 guests, dozens of star performers, a battalion of photographers and TV crews, and in the center of it all, Kristin herself, our beautiful and charming guest of honor.  With a beautiful decor created by designer <a href="http://www.prestonbailey.com/">Preston Bailey</a>, the evening &#8212; which included a cocktail reception, dinner, and a one-night-only musical tribute with highlights of Kristin&#8217;s extraordinary career &#8212; raised much-needed funds for the educational programs of The Drama League Directors Project.</p>
<p>Among the performers were <strong>Joel Grey, Cheyenne Jackson, Nick Jonas, </strong>board member <strong>Donna Murphy</strong>,<strong> Elaine Paige, Debra Monk, Marlo Thomas, Eden Espinosa, Brad Oscar, Marni Nixon, Kevin Clash </strong>of <em>Sesame Street</em>, <strong>Jason Graae, Carole Shelley, Brent Barrett, David Elder, Josh Young </strong>and dozens more.  Before dinner, Kristin and VIP ticketholders enjoyed private champagne toasts made by <strong>B.D. Wong</strong>, <em>Promises, Promises </em>director <strong>Rob Ashford</strong>, composer <strong>Andrew Lippa</strong>,<em></em> and a song by <strong>Laura Benanti</strong>.  Included in the evening&#8217;s performances were selections from <em>Wicked</em>, <em>The Apple Tree</em>, <em>Steel Pier</em>, <em>Glee</em>, <em>Music in the Air, Strike Up The Band</em>, <em>Promises, Promises, You&#8217;re A Good Man, Charlie Brown</em> and more.</p>
<p>After the finale (&#8220;For Good&#8221; from <em>Wicked</em>), Kristin took to the stage and thanked the audience for their support.  Mentioning the work of The Drama League Directors Project, she discussed the importance of training stage directors.  &#8220;I think of all the directors who have made me what I am today &#8212; <strong>Michael Mayer, Rob Ashford, Gary Griffin, Jerry Zaks, Joe Mantello</strong>&#8230;the list goes on and on.  Without them, I wouldn&#8217;t be here.&#8221;  Inspired by the moment, Kristin then broke into an <em>a capella</em> rendition of the classic ballad &#8220;You&#8217;ll Never Know,&#8221;  which brought the audience to their feet.  Afterwards, she took to Twitter and said,  &#8220;That was the single most amazing night of my life. The performances!!  To all the volunteers last night at Drama League, thank you for all your hard work!!!  What a tribute and I am so humbled.&#8221;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Mr. Jonas will join previously announced special guests Academy® and Tony Award®-winner Joel Grey, Tony Award®-winner Laura Benanti, Elaine Paige, Tony Award®-winner Donna Murphy, Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Award®-winner Debra Monk, Andrew Lippa, Marlo Thomas, Brent Barrett, Tony Award®-winner Carole Shelley, Brad Oscar, David Elder, Marni Nixon, Jason Graae, Eden Espinosa, Josh Young, Kevin Clash from “Sesame Street,” plus original and current cast members from the Broadway musical Wicked. Also joining the special guests will be Colin Bradbury, Grasan Kingsberry (On A Clear Day), announcer Bruce Barton, with a special performance by 7 actors chosen from NYC’s youth acting programs and productions: Martine Bowman (Tada! YouthTheater), Sofie Fusco (Tada! Youth Theater), Analia Heredia (Rosie’s Theater Kids), Petra Jevremov (Rosie’s Theater Kids), Andie Mechanic (The People in the Picture), Rachel Resheff (Mary Poppins), and Carly Rose Sonenclar (Wonderland).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This year The Drama League’s Gala will bring together 400 of New York City’s most influential arts supporters, celebrities, and luminaries for a black-tie evening of cocktails, dinner and the acclaimed, unforgettable one-night-only musical revue featuring dozens of stars from theater, film and television.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The evening’s special all-star tribute, directed by Evan Pappas, produced by Drama League Artistic Director Roger T. Danforth, with book by Stephen Cole and musical direction by Steve Freeman, will include selections from Wicked, “Glee,” You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Candide, Promises, Promises, Annie, The Music Man, Steel Pier, A New Brain, The Apple Tree, and many more.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Benefit Gala raises much-needed funds for the vital education programs of The Drama League Directors Project. Since 1984, the Benefit Gala has honored exceptional artists whose talent and passion have served as a benchmark for others. Each year, an enthusiastic audience of 400 theatre lovers – comprised of recognizable names from the professional theatre community and society pages, as well as Drama League members and supporters – come out to support the Drama League Directors Project.</p>
