The 27th Annual Drama League Benefit Gala, to be held on February 7, 2011 at the famed Pierre Hotel in New York City, has announced 2011 Honoree: two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone. Ms. LuPone’s extraordinary career — including iconic performances in Evita, Les Miserables, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, and many more — will form the basis of the lavish, one-night-only musical tribute, with dozens of stars from stage and screen performing in Ms. LuPone’s honor. The Gala, which supports the educational initiatives of The Drama League Directors Project, will be co-directed Tony Award winner Cady Huffman (The Producers) and Drama League Artistic Director Roger Danforth. The lineup of performers will include Tony Award Winners Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, Anika Noni Rose, Michael Cerveris, Scott Wittman & Marc Shaiman, Boyd Gaines, along with Christopher Sieber, Chad Kimball, Liz Callaway, Will Chase, Nick Adams, Emily Skinner, Justin Guarini, Michael Urie, James Monroe Iglehart, an ensemble of 90 performers, and “Life Goes On” co-star Chris Burke.
Four longtime collaborators of Ms. LuPone — David Mamet, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Mandy Patinkin and Stephen Sondheim — will serve as the Gala’s Honorary Chairs.
The Drama League’s annual Benefit Gala is easily one of the most exciting events of the season. Exclusive and elegant, the annual black-tie soiree — featuring a cocktail reception, a dazzling silent auction, and a specially-crafted three-course meal – is a night where the greatest stars of Broadway and Hollywood come together in a unique, one-night-only musical revue celebrating the career of the year’s Gala Honoree.
The Benefit Gala raises much-needed funds for the vital education programs of The Drama League Directors Project. Since 1984, the Benefit Gala has honored exceptional artists whose talent and passion have served as a benchmark for others. Each year, an enthusiastic audience of 400 theatre lovers – comprised of recognizable names from the professional theatre community and society pages, as well as Drama League members and supporters – come out to support the Drama League Directors Project.
The 2011 Benefit Gala is scheduled for Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City.
