The 2012-2013 season promises many exciting changes at The Drama League. As we work to build artists and audiences for the American theater, we constantly seek out new and vital ways to better serve you, the members and supporters who make our endeavors possible. In the coming year, The Drama League will embrace a new home in the TriBeCa arts district, gaining the ability to support a plethora of programming and artists’ endeavors. Each quarterly Program Guide publication announces upcoming Drama League events, grouped into the following six distinct series. We look forward to exploring with you.

Non-members may RSVP and/or purchase tickets to most Drama League events and performances. However, Drama League Members get the deepest discounts, and we will continue to offer exclusive Members-Only events. Members will continue to receive monthly notices of updates and additions to this season schedule.

BMI STUDIOS, 7 WORLD TRADE CENTER
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are the award-winning musical theatre composing team behind A Christmas Story, which toured nationwide and opened on Broadway in November 2012. They also wrote the music and lyrics for last year’s Off-Broadway hit musical Dogfight, and their original songs are featured on Season 2 of “Smash.”  Graduates of the University of Michigan BFA  Musical Theatre program, the duo made their debut with the widely acclaimed song cycle Edges.  Join the Drama League and students from the BMI Lehman Engle Musical Theatre Workshop for a night of songs, laughs, and insight into the process of  musical theatre songwriting!

Cyndi Lauper wrote the music and lyrics and Harvey Fierstein the book of this new musical about a drag queen singer who takes over a failing British shoe factory and converts it into a popular maker of fetish footwear. Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde).

In this National Theatre of Scotland adaptation of Shakespeare’s violent tragedy, Tony winner Alan Cumming (Cabaret) plays a tormented denizen of a psychiatric ward, acting out all the roles himself in a swirl of memory and fantasy. The actor is surrounded by video cameras following his every move, turning the solo play into a multimedia experience. Co-directed by John Tiffany (Once) and Andrew Goldberg.

THE TESTAMENT OF MARY

The widely acclaimed team of actress Fiona Shaw and director Deborah Warner (who previously collaborated on Medea on Broadway) take on Colm Toibin’s solo play, based on his own novel, which takes place after the Crucifixion. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is in the city of Ephesus where she is both guarded and protected. As two of her son’s followers set about giving shape to Jesus’ story, Mary tells her own story, the one which has not been heard.
