Project Development Programs:

New Directors/New Works

This program has two different levels of development –

Seed Grants and Workshop Grants.

SEED GRANT PROJECTS

SEED GRANTS are designed for promising new theatre pieces at the earliest stages of conception.  Seed Grants support projects which need an extended period of re-writing and dramaturgical guidance to explore ideas and inspirations.   Directors and their collaborators receive a funding stipend, rehearsal space, professional mentorship, administrative support, and community engagement.  Seed Grant Projects are inherently process-oriented, and may not result in a finished or completed project.  The grant culminates in a short rehearsal period.

The Seed Grants include:

  • Up to fifteen (15) hours of rehearsal space at the Drama League Theater Center
  • Project Funding of $750.00
  • A Professional Mentor selected by the Resident Artist in consultation with The Drama League
  • Dedicated Administrative Workspace – Computer with WiFi, Conference Room, Fax/Copying Facility, etc.

Requirements:

  • Applications are open to all artists defining themselves as directors
  • Each selected artistic team is required to give back to the profession and the theatre community by presenting one (1) Creative Community event [to the public] during their residency.  Creative Community events are free and open to the public, and can include (but are not limited to) open rehearsals, presentations of material, classes, lectures, workshops, readings, or other project-related activities.

Application Deadline: February 1, 2013
