Friday August 9th, 5-8pm
Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Studio Lab
Drama League Theater Center
Ground Floor, 32 Avenue of the Americas
Join Rachel Chavkin, director of the acclaimed Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, as she leads a workshop focusing on devised theater; a unique playwrighting process, where the script originates not from a writer, but from collaborative work by a group of people. As “hybrid-artists” are becoming more common, learn how everyone shares the duties of playwright and dramaturg, director and performer in this art form.
This workshop will give you the tools needed to begin writing on your feet, movingfrom ideas to dynamic theatrical moments, while cultivating an ensemble bond. Come prepared in clothes that allow you to move, and with a pen and paper, as you collaborate with others, in true devising form.
Rachel Chavkin is a two time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk nominated director, and the founding Artistic Director of Brooklyn-based collaborative ensemble, the TEAM (www.theteamplays.org). Rachel is an NYTW Usual Suspect, an Artistic Associate at Classic Stage Company, an alum of the Drama League Directors Project, the Women’s Project Director’s Lab, and the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, and a New Georges Affiliate Artist. She has taught extensively, including at NYU and Pace. B.F.A. NYU, M.F.A. Columbia.
Places are limited for this pay-what-you-can workshop. Be sure to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 212-244-9494 x 101 to RSVP.
